Moving Home Made Easy
Moving home needn’t be a horror story. We’ve helped tens of thousands of clients buy, sell, rent and let their homes over the years. So to make the process a little less stressful, here’s a simple checklist to make your moving experience simpler.
Book a professional removal company to help you move – you’ll already have enough on your mind so why add to the stress? Also, arrange for a registered company to prepare any fitted appliances you’re taking with you.
Inform all service providers of your change of address – including utility companies, TV licence and credit cards. You might want to consider setting up a forwarding address with your local Post Office.
When you start packing, make sure to label all boxes clearly. Keep aside one box for any bits and pieces you might need immediately at your new home (lightbulbs, toiletries, champagne, etc.)
During the move, set aside those delicate or necessary items that you’re taking with you separately so that they don’t go with the removal company by mistake. You’d be surprised how often it happens.
Before you leave: take note of any meter readings, make sure any relevant instruction manuals (such as for the boiler) are left behind, all devices are disconnected, that all the doors and windows are locked, and nothing’s left behind.
