Known as a safe and green suburb, Wanstead was once a royal hunting ground near Epping Forest and has all the right ingredients for an upmarket suburb. Heads are turning once again to Wanstead with young professionals moving out of the hip urban East London neighbourhoods in search of more space and access to nature. In recent years, it’s even drawn comparisons to places such as Richmond for its attractive period properties and village atmosphere.

The Wanstead property market covers a large area (as sales and letting agents, we cover IG8, E11, E17, E18 and E12 postcodes). However, there are a few landmarks that are unique to Wanstead. In addition to Epping Forest and of course Wanstead Flats, there’s also Wanstead Park. This was previously one of the most decadent and impressive houses in Georgian England. Remnants of the mansion remain such as the Grotto along with the lakes, islands and canals that were originally built for the household. This expansive green space is now open to the public and is ideal for dog walking, morning runs, golf and other activities.

Although Wanstead has many desirable areas, Wanstead Park is where some of the most sought-after homes can be found. The broad leafy avenues are home to larger period properties, offering a fantastic location to put down roots for families. The ‘village’ is another desirable pocket, centred around Christ Church Wanstead and with a talked about high street packed with family-friendly eateries, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops. Further up, there’s Wanstead Farmers’ Market with everything from organic produce to ethically reared meats, freshly baked bread, free-range eggs and handmade sweet treats. It’s experiences like these that are at the heart of the atmosphere and create a welcoming experience for newcomers.

As lettings agents in Wanstead, we have seen increased demand from tenants moving into the area attracted by the excellent transport links and pre-school opportunities. There are two Maytime Montessori Nurseries, both with ‘outstanding’ reports and a focus on learning through play. For those with a car, the M11 link road runs through Wanstead and is close to the North Circular and A12. Wanstead also has London Underground connections with the Central line passing through Wanstead and Snaresbrook. All of this makes Wanstead property market an overlooked option when compared to other upmarket suburbs such as Richmond and Twickenham. If you’re looking for an experienced estate agent in Wanstead to help sell or rent your property, we can offer a current appraisal and help you achieve the best possible outcome.
