What was once one of East London’s industrial areas has given way to a thriving Hackney property market. Known as a creative hub in East London, Hackney has everything from parks and canals, shops and restaurants – and of course a vibrant art scene. Often compared with Shoreditch, both neighbourhoods have changed significantly over recent years partly as a result of investment following The London 2012 Summer Olympics. Hackney benefits from being both a lively community with its own thing going on and also feeling like a quieter suburb away from the bustle of the city.

People come to Hackney for a variety of reasons, and there are several talking points that make it unique. Wander the streets and you’ll soon come across some of East London’s famous watering holes along with new eateries that are springing up, offering al fresco dining and batch roasted coffee. Victoria Park and London Fields are great for families, providing green space and nature – and even a ride on a pedalo or rowing boat. Victoria Park also has a market that serves up incredible cuisine from all corners of the world. Few places are more enjoyable to walk or jog than along the edge of the Regent’s Canal, which borders the park. This access to the outdoors so close to the action is part of Hackney’s appeal. We should probably also mention that Hackney comes with its own farm – Hackney City Farm – which makes for a fun day out to see the animals.

When it comes to weekend downtime, Saturdays at Broadway Market are an unmissable opportunity to sample samosas and noodles by independent street vendors and to browse everything from vintage clothing, arts and crafts, second-hand books and records – not to mention a few of the murals that make the area so visually interesting. But perhaps the best way to find your bearings in (and burn off those samosas) is to climb the steps of St Augustine’s Tower, a 16th-century Grade I-listed building that offers excellent landscape views over Hackney.

If you’re thinking of making this pocket of East London home, the best way to find what you’re looking for is to speak with a sales and lettings agent in Hackney. We have a wide range of property available from period conversions and converted warehouses to new builds, terraced houses and apartments. The streets around here are still affordable when compared to neighbouring Islington and Shoreditch, and offer excellent transport links in and out of the city. The overground runs right through the heart of Hackney and can take you to Liverpool Street Station in minutes.
